As a group we are supported entirely by funds raised through our parents committee. The committee is made up of parents of present and past members of the group and the group’s leaders. They organise events throughout the year to raise money for the administration of the group, insurance, rent and all other expenses the group have. You will from time to time be asked to help at certain events and support others by selling tickets and attending. The group committee try to make every event as fun possible and this is always helped by a good attendance. Should you wish to be more involved with the fundraising please contact me as we are always looking for new members to help out.
Every year we run a number of camping trips for the children. This is an opportunity for each member to put into practice some of the skills they have learned in their section meetings. They only exception to this is the Beavers, they don’t camp but do come along for the day on some camps. Camping is a chance for your son/daughter to develop mentally and physically. The “Scout Programme” is based around outdoor activity and preparing children with life skills. Attributes that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. They will learn how to cook safely, they will understand the reasons for hygiene. They will learn about first aid, map reading, fire safety and prevention and many more skills designed to challenge both mind and body. Scouting believes that practical experience is more fun and a superior learning medium.
The children work towards badges and awards throughout their time in each section. They will take part in competitions, and tests of their abilities, all designed to be participant friendly and aimed at the skill level each child can manage.
Scouting uses the internet in positive way, most of the programme and badge info is downloadable from www.scoutbase.org or www.scouts.org.uk The group has its own web site. You can view and print photos of events the children have taken part in, look up dates of camps, fundraising events or activities. There is a files section with general information about the group and some of the standard information sheets we provide, camp kit lists, uniform badge location diagrams and much more.
